Stricker gets ready for British Open
Edgerton golfer unable to win John Deer Classic for 4th year
SILVIS, Ill. — Almost as soon as the John Deere classic ended in the quad cities yesterday, Steve Stricker was on a plane to Lancashire in northwest England to play in the open championship.
Stricker’s first round tee-time is 3:42 a.m. central daylight time Thursday.
Stricker will try and get some sleep Thursday because he’s coming off a tough weekend in the Quad Cities where he came very close to winning a fourth straight John Deere classic. But putting woes down the stretch put him in a tie for fifth.
“It’s been a little bit of a tiring kind of week,” said Stricker. “You know, a lot of expectations, a lot of things going on here, but all good things, don’t get me wrong, but you know, it takes a lot out of you, too.”
Stricker will be trying to get his first victory in a major in England.
