An 11-year-old told Madison police a stranger in a car called her a cutie and appeared to follow her Monday afternoon.

The girl was walking near Heritage Heights Park at 701 Meadowlark Drive around 3 p.m. when the incident happened, according to a release.

The girl told a friend’s parent, who lives in the area, and the adult walked the girl home, police said. The girl told police the man drove off as she started talking with the adult.

The incident did not happen during school or on schools grounds, but Kennedy Elementary School Principal Nancy Caldwell informed parents of the incident Tuesday as it was close to the school.

“Our district Safety & Security Coordinator was contacted today, who arranged for a Madison police officer to come to school to file a report in order to investigate,” Caldwell said in the email Monday. “While I don’t have additional details at this time, I will update you if I get any updates from police. The police will be patrolling the area where this incident was reported to have happened.”

The man is described as white, in his 30s with light brown hair, a beard and moles on his face. He was wearing sunglasses and was driving a red four-door car.
