Storms cause damage in Lafayette County
High winds destroy equipment shed, knock down large trees
DARLINGTON, Wis. — The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department said high winds Sunday night destroyed buildings, toppled trees and caused a major mess at two farms in Lafayette County.
The winds caused much of the damage after 6 p.m. Sunday.
The Wellnitz farm in Wiota Township lost a large metal equipment shed due to the storm. Residents said numerous tractors, a combine and other pieces of farm equipment suffered damage from the collapse. No one was injured due to the damage, according to the sheriff’s department.
Meanwhile, the Rygh farm in South Wayne saw man large trees knocked down from the story, with one tree destroying a car after it fell on it. Four other buildings were partially damaged due to the high winds.
Deputies said interviews conducted after the storms said no one witnessed anything besides straight line winds. However, the damage will continue to be investigated, according to the sheriff’s department.
