Steven L. Walden
Steven L. Walden, age 69 of Monroe, died Sunday, October 29, 2017 at the Monroe Clinic Hospice Home following a battle with cancer.
Steve was born May 19, 1948 in Monroe, the son of Vernus L. and Bernadine N. (Zwergel) Walden. He graduated from Blanchardville High School in 1966 and was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Dalton on February 10, 1968 at the York Memorial Lutheran Church in Blanchardville.
Steve served six years in the U.S. Army Reserve and was employed as an Auto Technician for many years at Marty-Ripp Chevrolet, Bienema Oldsmobile-Cadillac, Everhart-O’Leary, and Ruda Chevrolet Toyota before retiring. He was a member of York Memorial Lutheran Church in Blanchardville, was an avid outdoorsman enjoying golfing, fishing, hunting, and camping. He also enjoyed umpiring slowpitch at Twining Park. He was a member of the Green County EMS for many years and was an EMS instructor at Blackhawk Technical College.
Steve and Mary Ellen enjoyed touring the U.S. by motorcycle along with numerous friends.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Ellen Walden of Monroe; a daughter, Claudine (Thomas) Ruzga of Schererville, IN; four grandchildren, Jacob Rocca, Samuel Ruzga, Tess Ruzga, and T.J. Ruzga; a sister, Debra (James) Severson of Blanchardville; two brothers, Gary (Nancy) Walden of Waunakee, and Dean (Ruth) Walden of Effingham, IL; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernus and Bernie Walden; and in-laws, Charles and Mayme Dalton.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, November 3, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., at the York Memorial Lutheran Church, N9407 Highway 78, Blanchardville. Inurnment with military rites will be in the York Memorial Church Cemetery followed by a memorial luncheon at Blanchard Hall, 206 S. Main Street, Blanchardville. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 1329 31 st Avenue, Monroe. Condolences may be shared at www.newcomerfuneralhome.net
