State offers tips on gift returns, refunds
Consumer protection officials are urging shoppers this holiday season to be aware of store policies on returns, refunds and exchanges.
Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection administrator Sandy Chalmers warns that many stores charge a restocking fee that may increase if the package is opened.
Each business is responsible for setting its own return guidelines.
State regulators say shoppers should be aware that policies vary by store. Shoppers are also urged to keep receipts and pay attention to the time frame given by retailers for returns.
Also, when ordering online or over the phone, the state recommends that shoppers find out who pays shipping fees to return items.
