State health officials open West Nile hotline
In an effort to track the spread of the West Nile virus, Wisconsin health officials have started a hotline for reporting dead birds.
Anyone who sees a dead bird is asked to call the hotline to arrange to have the bird collected and tested, officials said.
The hotline is 1-800-433-1610.
The dead bird sightings can also be reported online at the Department of Health Services website, www.dhswisconsin.gov.
Three cases of West Nile were reported in humans last year in Wisconsin.
The virus is spread to humans through mosquito bites.
