State employees displaced by fire return to work
Employees work from home, alternate locations
MADISON, Wis. — State employees displaced by a fire in the GEF-1 building on East Washington Avenue on May 16 are getting back to work Tuesday at various other locations.
The Department of Administration said some employees are working from home while others are going back to work at alternate locations starting Tuesday.
The employees are from the Department of Administration, Department of Workforce Development and Department of Children and Families.
The building could be closed for eight weeks or more.
The Department of Administration is cleaning and delivering 2,000 boxes filled with critical work items to alternate work sites by Tuesday.
State officials said they are working to furnish the alternate work sites and will address issues with the work sites as quickly as possible.
Department of Workforce Development and Department of Children and Families online services are working normally and all locations besides GEF-1 are operating normally, including Unemployment Insurance Call Centers and Wisconsin Job Service centers.
