Standoff with armed woman inside residence ends peacefully
A Janesville woman was arrested Tuesday night after arming herself and barricading herself inside a residence, police said.
Janesville police were sent to the 800 block of Harding Street for reports of an armed subject around 5:05 p.m., according to a release.
The caller inside the residence said his girlfriend armed herself with a knife and was threatening him, police said. When the man left the residence, the woman threatened to harm herself.
Officers from the Janesville Police Department SWAT Negotiations Team established communication with the woman, according to the release. The woman threatened to force an officer to shoot her if police did not leave the area, so officers deployed a series of less-than-lethal options.
The SWAT Negotiations Team eventually engaged the woman in conversation and police were able to secure her, officials said.
At 7 p.m., the woman was taken into custody without any injuries, according to the release.
An investigation revealed the woman was the predominant aggressor in a domestic violence-related incident, authorities said. She was arrested on tentative charges of disorderly conduct while armed and felony failure to comply with law enforcement.
