WAUNAKEE, Wis. - The Waunakee Warriors had their backs against the wall, but a fourth-quarter comeback led them to the WIAA Division 2 football championship over Brookfield Central.
Waunakee trailed 13-0 to open the final quarter, but Nolan Thole forced a fumble that was recovered by Jeremy Werner and the Warriors were in business. Running back Javian Dayne scored a touchdown on the ensuing drive to make it a 13-7 game.
Dayne, son of former Wisconsin star Ron Dayne, added a second touchdown with 5:24 to go to give Waunakee (14-0) the lead for good. He finished with 107 yards on 29 carries.
It's the sixth state title for the Warriors, but their first since 2011.
