Iowa stops Wisconsin in Big Ten opener, 56-46

Port Wing's Gustafson leads Hawkeyes

MADISON - Megan Gustafson scored 21 points to lead the Iowa Hawkeyes to a 56-46 win over the Wisconsin Badgers in the Big Ten Conference opener for women's basketball Thursday night at the Kohl Center.

Marsha Howard started the game with a three-point play to give the Badgers a 3-0 lead, but then the Hawkeyes went on a 19-2 run.

Gustafson, who's from Port Wing, Wisconsin, was only 5-12 from the field, but hit all 11 of her free throw attempts for Iowa (13-1 overall, 1-0 Big Ten.)

Suzanne Gilreath led Wisconsin (7-7, 0-1) with 11 points while Courtney Fredrickson and Howard each added 10 points.
