Some strong to severe thunderstorms possible this afternoon – Chris

An Alert Day is in the forecast for This Afternoon and Tonight. Showers and thunderstorms are likely; a few thunderstorms may produce heavy rainfall of more than an inch that could lead to localized flooding. A few severe thunderstorms may possible with high winds and hail in the afternoon and evening.
While all of Wisconsin could see showers and storms today, southern Wisconsin is being monitored for isolated severe storms. The Storm Prediction Center has the area under a slight risk of severe storms.
The primary concern with any storms would be the potential for hail in southern Wisconsin. The threats for tornadoes and damaging winds remains very low.
Farther south of Wisconsin, the severe threat is higher over parts of Illinois, where a moderate risk of severe weather exists. These are the areas where the tornado threat will be greatest, but still staying mostly south of the Wisconsin state line.
In regards to timing, look for the strongest storms to develop south and west of Madison around 6PM. These are the storms that will have the greatest chance to produce any hail.
Those should arrive in the Madison area by 7-8PM, before pushing to the northeast and weakening.
