Soldiers return from Afghanistan to Green Bay

Unit was deployed in March 2011

About 100 soldiers of the 432nd Civil Affairs Battalion were welcomed home in Green Bay on Saturday after a yearlong deployment to Afghanistan.

Family members and friends greeted the soldiers at the Kress Center. Many of them are back for the first time since they were deployed in March 2011.

Staff Sgt. Corey Evenson said it’s a relief to see the unit together again in uniform, knowing everyone made it home. It’s a third deployment for Evenson, who says he won’t be going anywhere for a while.

Sgt. Adam Alexander was wounded during the deployment and is still recovering at Walter Reed Hospital in Bethesda, Md. The crowd applauded as Alexander’s family stood to honor Corey.

His mother, Mary Kay Alexander, told WBAY-TV it’s a good feeling to know that people care so much.
