Soglin comes out against GOP tax bill
MADISON, Wis. — Madison Mayor Paul Soglin announced his opposition to the new U.S. House Republican tax bill Thursday, saying the average Wisconsinite will pay more taxes under the plan.
According to House Republicans, the bill will cut the number of tax brackets from seven to four, while also doubling the standard tax deduction. However, Soglin said the bill will pass a significant burden on to middle-class citizens.
“This tax bill is going to shift the taxes to ordinary people. It is going to mean that families and individual taxpayers are going to be paying more money compared to large corporations,” Soglin said.
