Simpson Street Free Press recognized nationally, again
By any number of measures the Simpson Street Free Press has had a pretty good year. And it looks already poised to have an equally good, if not better, 2015.
Of course the most important measure is the number of young people who are growing, personally and academically, through their involvement with Dane County’s Teen Newspaper, and that number continues to grow.
These are young people who are seeing their grades go up and learning practical workplace skills through the rigorous, writing based, after-school hours program. But a little recognition doesn’t hurt. And a few weeks ago, the Simpson Street Free Press was one of five organizations to receive an invitation to present at the national Afterschool Alliance conference in Washington, D.C., in March.
It is prestigious recognition indeed. Almost as prestigious as the invitation to the White House the Free Press accepted a couple of years ago. You get the picture.
The Simpson Street Free Press is one of the best achievement gap closers we’ve got going. It’s nice other folks are seeing that as well.
