All are Family at Silver Lining Taekwon-Do in Middleton
There are no outsiders at Silver Lining Taekwon-Do, according to owner and Sabumin Mathiam Mbow.
Once you’re enrolled at the Middleton Dojang, you’re more than just a student, Mathiam says.
“Everyone here is family,” Mathiam says. “It doesn’t matter your background. We are all part of the same family.”
Mathiam was born in Senegal, moving to the United States at the age of 25 to pursue a degree in English. At that point, he’d been studying martial arts for seven years.
Flash forward to today and Mathiam holds a sixth-degree black belt in traditional ITF (International Taekwon-Do Federation) Taekwon-Do, a first-degree black belt in traditional WTF (World Taekwon-Do Federation) Taekwon-Do and is a certified international instructor with three decades of experience under his belt.
Mathiam said his goal is to provide his students more than martial arts training. The life lessons teach structure and discipline, as well as the value of sportsmanship while providing the foundation for a successful life which is the ultimate goal in Taekwon-Do training.
The promotion of diversity and inclusivity helps nurture the family atmosphere.
“It doesn’t matter how skilled you are or where you come from,” said Mathiam, “The only thing we ask is that all of our students have a good attitude and be willing to learn because we are the silver lining, inspiring people to have a positive mindset to overcome life’s challenges.”
