DARLINGTON, Wis. — Alliant Energy crews are working to repair a damaged gas line after a highway construction crew caused a gas leak on Darlington’s west side.

Police and fire crews were sent to the intersection of Washington and West Mary streets around 1:50 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a gas leak. When they arrived, officials found that the construction crew struck an underground gas line, which caused a significant leak.

Residents in the area were evacuated, and streets in the area were closed until 3:20 p.m.

Alliant Energy crews stopped the leak and are working on repairs.

No one was injured and there was no fire or property damage reported.

The Lafayette County Sheriff’s office, Lafayette County Highway Department, Darlington Public Works and Lafayette County emergency medical services helped Darlington first responders with the response.
