The Wisconsin Department of Transportation said Thursday that the Merrimac ferry, named the COLSAC III, will close at 6 p.m. Friday because of ice conditions on the Wisconsin River.
The ferry shuttles vehicles and bicycles free of charge 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
“‘Shiver me timbers – that’s ice on the Wisconsin River!'” the DOT tweeted Thursday. “Thanks for riding in 2018, see you in the spring!”
Ferry operations will resume when conditions allow in 2019, the DOT said.
