Shullsburg man killed in motorcycle crash
BENTON TOWNSHIP, Wis. — A 59-year-old Shullsburg man died Sunday in a motorcycle crash in Benton Township, Lafayette County Sheriff Reg Gill said.
The sheriff’s office was called to the 28000 block of County Highway W at 9:21 a.m. on a report of a one-vehicle motorcycle crash just east of the intersection with Dump Road. The motorcycle was reportedly in a ditch, and its driver was not breathing.
An initial investigation found that Richard T. Barry was driving east on Highway W when he failed to negotiate a curve. His motorcycle left the roadway on the north side of the road, and he was ejected, Gill said. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Barry was declared dead at the scene, Gill said. The crash, Lafayette County’s first fatal crash of 2017, is still under investigation.
