Shoplifter pulls knife on grocery store workers, police say

A shoplifter pulled a knife on grocery store workers in Madison Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Madison police said a man and woman were at the Metcalfe’s Market on North Midvale Boulevard at about 3 p.m. when they left the store with goods without paying.

According to the report, store staff members followed the man and woman out of the store after the couple stole alcohol and hot food items. When confronted by staff members, the man pulled a knife and pointed it at them. He and the woman kept walking, as the workers, who were fearful for their safety, backed off.

The man was described as black and in his 50s. He was wearing a puffy camouflage jacket with black jacket underneath and blue jeans. The woman was described as white with short, curly hair. She was wearing a puffy red jacket and a blue hat with an orange letter “C” on it.
