Every year, there’s a moment when I’m snuggled up on the couch on a cold December night, and then I remember all of the holiday shopping I’ve yet to do. But instead of using my credit card to scrape ice off my frozen-over windshield so I can run to a store, now I have the luxury of putting that piece of plastic to better use by shopping online from the comfort of my living room.

But shopping online doesn’t mean you can’t shop local. If you, too, wish to avoid the holiday crowds and stay warm this gift-giving season, check out these six Madison-based online shops to find the perfect local product for your loved one.

The Tin OwlShop these 6 Madison-based online shops

With a line of home decor, jewelry, clothing and other fun gifts, The Tin Owl has a huge selection to satisfy the hardest person to shop for on your list. The store combines owner Maren Misner’s deep love for photography and craft.

Among the offerings are wooden wall decor with printed images of Madison and global photographs ranging from Paris to San Francisco. For the holidays, Misner suggests, “A Wisconsin home print or T-shirt is a perfect holiday gift for anyone in your life who maybe lives far away now and misses home.” The owner also loves pairing one of her handmade magnets with a bottle of sparkling wine as a great gift to give a holiday host.

The Tin Owl offers 25 percent off all items on Nov. 24-27, with a quarter of all proceeds during the sale going toward the hurricane relief efforts in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Jewelry is a classic holiday favorite gift, and Cire’ Cross’ jewelry brand Cire’ Alexandria sells modern jewelry for the modern woman. The collection is mainly made with brass and 14k gold and mirrors Cross’ personal style. “I have a split personality for the layers, textures, colors and mix of a bohemian style, while the other half of me loves modern, minimalistic Scandinavian design,” says Cross.

The jewelry artist also produced a line of small home decor items, too, including brass wall hangings, wall hooks and an incense set. Stuff your stockings with a Hammered Brass Ornament or Cross says her Stud Gift Set is another great holiday gift because “everyone loves little every day earrings.”

Find quality, hand-stitched leather products through Jepsen LeatherGoods. Owner and artist Alicia Jepsen offers a small-scale mix of leather goods, hand-crafted individually through an awl and waxed linen thread. “I use only full grain leathers that I source from a tannery in St. Louis that has been in business since the 1800s,” says Jepsen.

Her aesthetic is simple and yields creative construction and clean lines. As a stocking stuffer, the key covers help save time when rummaging for a key in the cold by distinguishing it from the rest. “Pair your key cover with a key ring that has a slim pocket to stash emergency cash, too,” says Jepsen.
