BERLIN, Wis. — A man died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound following a domestic incident near Berlin Wednesday, the Green Lake County’s Sheriff’s Office said.

In a news release, the sheriff’s office said deputies responded to a home on County Highway A around 11:30 a.m. after getting a call from a woman who said her ex-boyfriend was in her home and was not supposed to be.

When deputies got to the house, the man had left. About five minutes after getting to the scene, a deputy talking to the woman heard a single gunshot about a quarter of a mile away.

After several hours, deputies found the man dead on the banks of the river near the Mascoutin Golf Course.

A civilian helped deputies recover the man’s body using a boat that was small enough to get through the narrow waterway.

The sheriff’s office did not release the man’s name or age pending family notification.
