Sheriff: Mobile home death, fire investigations yield arrest

Authorities said they have a man in custody in connection with a death and fire investigation in Dodge County.

The Dodge County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release that a Cambria man was arrested in connection with a fire near Beaver Dam where a body was found Saturday. However, the department said the man’s name and details on the charges would not be released until his initial court appearance, which was not provided.

The sheriff also said in a statement late Saturday night that the identity of the deceased was not yet determined, but the Fond du Lac and Dodge County medical examiners were in the process of identifying the person and determining the cause of death.

A report said on at about 4:44 a.m. Saturday, the Dodge County Sheriff’s Department received a call on a fire inside a mobile home on Forest Road in the Town of Calamus near Beaver Dam.

Officers on the scene at the Maple Grove Trailer Court said smoke and flames were visible when they arrived.

The sheriff’s department said crews searched the trailer after the fire was extinguished and found a body.

Authorities said Saturday evening that personnel from the sheriff’s department and Wisconsin State Fire Marshal’s Office were processing the fire scene. The cause and origin of the fire are still under investigation.

Also assisting the Dodge County Sheriff’s Department with the case are the Beaver Dam police, the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigations, Columbia County Sheriff’s Department and the Wisconsin State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The Beaver Dam fire department was assisted by Columbus, Horicon, Lowell, Randolph, and Fall River fire departments.
