Sheriff: Intoxicated driver struck car carrying baby
Authorities said a baby was unharmed in an evening crash that led to a fourth drunken driving charge for an Illinois man.
The Green County Sheriff’s Department said deputies responded to a report of a crash at the intersection of Peckham Road and Highway E in Albany on Friday afternoon.
According to the report, at about 6:35 p.m., Christopher F. Greene, 29, of Galena, Ill., was driving on Highway E when the car crossed the center line and hit the driver’s side of a car driven by Ann Schaefer, 25, of Albany.
The sheriff’s department said Schaefer was wearing her seat belt and her infant passenger was secured in a car seat in the rear of the vehicle and was not injured. The report said Schaefer was injured but refused treatment.
Greene was wearing his seat belt and was not injured, the sheriff said. Greene’s vehicle sustained moderate damage but Schaefer’s vehicle received severe damage to the front driver side and was towed from the scene, officials said.
Green was arrested on suspicion of third-offense OWI and taken to jail, the report said. He was also cited for driving with a revoked license, operating left of center and failure to maintain control of a vehicle, according to the report.
The sheriff said the incident remains under investigation.
