Sheriff: Brodhead man leaves SUV in ditch overnight after losing control of it

A 28-year-old Brodhead man lost control of his SUV, left the roadway, struck a mailbox and overturned in a ditch, according to police.

Deputies responded at 4:55 a.m. Thursday to the rollover crash in the Town of Decatur. However, when police contacted the SUV driver, David A. Scofield, he told them that the crash occurred around 9:45 p.m. Scofield reported he was uninjured and that he was wearing his seat belt.

Scofield had fled the accident scene and left the vehicle behind. The vehicle was towed due to severe damage.Citations are pending, according to police.
