Sheriff: Alcohol may be factor in crash that injured two
TOWN OF EXCELSIOR, Wis. — Two people were injured in a crash that closed parts of Highway 33 east of Reedsburg late Thursday night, Sauk County Sheriff Chip Meister said.
Deputies and emergency crews received a call at 11:20 p.m. reporting a two-vehicle head-on crash on Highway 33 just west of Coonbluff Road in the town of Excelsior, Meister said in a news release.
An initial investigation showed that a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am being driven by 29-year-old Cody K. Bolt, of Reedsburg, was heading east on Highway 33 when it crossed over the center line and hit a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix, the release said.
Bolt was flown by MedFlight to UW Hospital, while the Grand Prix’s driver, Shawn P. Higgins, 34, of Reedsburg, was taken to UW Hospital by ambulance, the release said. Both were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, Meister said.
Highway 33 was closed for more than three hours while crews worked to reconstruct the crash, the release said.
