Sheriff: 290 pounds of marijuana found during traffic stops

About 290 pounds of marijuana were found in two vehicles during traffic stops near Osseo.

Officers stopped the two cars because they suspected the drivers were transporting large amounts of illegal contraband, according to a news release from the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office.

In the cars, they found the marijuana, drug paraphernalia, three firearms and two stun guns, officials said.

Officers obtained warrants and searched the vehicles of Joel J. Helding, 32, of Tomahawk, and Valerie A. Flores, 25, of Wausau. Helding tried to flee from officers. Flores was arrested without incident, according to the release.

The two were booked into the Trempealeau County Jail for Department of Corrections warrants, felony eluding, possession with intent to deliver THC, felon in possession of a firearm and other misdemeanor charges.
