Shawano Co. man sentenced to life in mental institution
Man accused of killing his father
SHAWANO, Wis. — A 21-year-old Shawano County man accused of killing his father has been sentenced to life in a mental institution.
A Shawano County judge sentenced Joshua Johnson on Thursday.
In October, the court accepted Johnson’s plea of not guilty by reason of mental disease. A criminal complaint said Johnson shot, stabbed and beat his 53-year-old father, Donald Johnson, last February.
Doctors called by the defense had testified that Johnson suffers from paranoid schizophrenia.
The district attorney said Johnson’s placement at a mental health facility is still being worked out.
WAOW-TV reported as part of his sentence Johnson has the right to petition for a review every six months.
