Sex offender released to public, will live in Beloit

BELOIT, Wis. — The Wisconsin Department of Corrections notified the Beloit Police Department on Thursday that a registered sex offender will temporarily live in Beloit.

According to a news release, Joshua S. Sweat, 37, will be released from prison Tuesday and reside at 1216 Portland Avenue, Beloit.

The release said that location is a temporary living placement location rented by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.

Officials said Sweat’s targeted victims were juvenile females. He sexually assaulted a cognitively delayed juvenile victim who became pregnant and was convicted of second-degree sexual assault of a child in November 2006 and second-degree sexual assault of a child in July 2009.

Sweat remains on supervision until Feb. 2, 2032, and is required to register with the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry, according to the release.

Sweat will also be on lifetime GPS monitoring and cannot have unsupervised contact with minors or the victims.

Beloit police expect Sweat to cooperate and comply with the conditions of his release.
