TOWNSHIP OF LOWELL, Wis. — A person operating a horse-drawn buggy had to be airlifted to a hospital in Madison after a crash in Dodge County Friday morning.

The Dodge County Sheriff’s office says the buggy was hit by an SUV on State Highway 16/60 west of the intersection of County Highway J in the Township of Lowell at about 7:10 a.m. Friday.

Authorities say their initial investigation shows the SUV hit the buggy from behind while traveling east on State Highway 16/60, ejecting the buggy driver.

That person suffered severe injuries and was taken to UW Hospital in Madison. The driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries and was taken to Marshfield Medical Center in Beaver Dam.

Highway 16,60 was closed for about 3 hours on Friday morning while crews investigated the scene.

The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office says the crash remains under investigation.
