MADISON, Wis. — Madison police are investigating a series of residential burglaries Thursday morning on the city’s far west side.

Madison Police Lieutenant Paul Bauman said most of the burglaries involved burglars opening unlocked cars.

The burglars were able to use garage door openers in the cars to open garages and gain access to the houses.

The victim of one burglary on the 1200 block of Twinleaf Lane told police he woke to find a masked burglar inside his house.

The homeowner told police he chased the intruder out of the house.

The burglar then got into a large, gray SUV and drove away.

Police believe the SUV is connected to several other burglaries in the area.

The Madison Police Department is reminding people to lock the doors of their houses and vehicles.

Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to call the Madison Police Department at 608-255-2345.
