Senate committee to vote on new prisons secretary

A legislative committee is poised to vote on confirming Gov. Scott Walker’s pick to serve as Wisconsin’s next prisons secretary.

Walker appointed Jon Litscher as secretary of the Department of Corrections in February after Ed Wall resigned amid a federal investigation into abuse allegations at the state’s youth prison in Irma.

The state Senate’s judiciary committee is set to vote on confirming Litscher’s appointment on Wednesday. Approval would clear the way for a full Senate confirmation vote.

Litscher served as DOC secretary from 1999 to 2003 under Republican Govs. Tommy Thompson and Scott McCallum.
