Sawyer William Martin

Sawyer William Martin

Sawyer William Martin, 16, of Merrimac, felt that being with us on this earth was too painful and made the decision to take his own life on July 27th, 2022. He was born in Sauk City on April 12th, 2006, to his parents Joel and Jessica (Thompson) Martin.

Sawyer loved playing all sports from basketball, baseball, football, fishing, hunting, trap shooting, bowling, dirt biking and of course the X-box. He was such a fun-loving guy that could make friends with anyone he crossed paths with. The way he embraced relationships was not something you can learn but part of his soul. If you were Sawyer’s friend, you knew it.

Sawyer was going to be a Junior at Sauk Prairie High School. He was part of the Basketball, Baseball, and Trap Shooting teams. He was so fond of all his teachers and coaches throughout the years. Sawyer had plans of going to school to be a linesman.

Sawyer wanted to let all his friends and family know he loved them and is sorry for this decision, but felt it was the only way. Sawyer was loved by so many, but that love couldn’t keep him with us.

People be kind because words and actions can hurt. It doesn’t matter if you don’t like someone you don’t have to make them feel like a disappointment. KIDS BE NICE!! Embrace your teammates even if they aren’t the cool kids or starters of the team. Encourage each other and be there for one another, don’t break each other down. You never know what other people are going through and what are you really getting out of it. Mental health doesn’t always show on the outside and it is sure hard to see what people are feeling on the inside.

Sawyer was especially loved by his parents, sister, Annalise, grandparents, George Martin, Lavonne and Rick Kamnetz, aunt, Toni and uncles, Dave Jelinek, Paul and aunt Nichelle Martin, uncle, Todd Martin, uncle, Tim Martin, cousin, Lilly Martin, aunt, Gina Doyle, cousins, Kayla and Ryan Doyle, his Camp S.M.O.K. family and all his friends and family.

Although we will never be whole again, we will always cherish the short 16 years you gave to us. We know Grandma Carol Martin and Grandpa Tony Thompson embraced you with open arms and you are now at peace.

Love hard because life is unpredictable. Sawyer is now our forever Peter Pan because he will never become a man. Never say goodbye because goodbye means going away and going away means forgetting. We will always leave a window open.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 6th at Marion Park in Prairie du Sac from 2-6 p.m. A service will be held at the same location at 3 p.m. Please come and share your stories and help us grieve this absolutely life-shattering tragedy. We would love everyone that can wear your Sauk Prairie Eagle gear as Sawyer was a proud Eagle thru and thru.

Soar high Sawyer and be free, be free son.
