Sara Mae McDermott, 80, of Platteville died on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at Manor Care Health Services, Platteville.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Westview Methodist Church, Madison & Hathaway Streets, Platteville. Pastor Paul Glendenning will officiate. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Platteville. Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 30, 2014 at Westview Methodist Church, where there will be an American Legion Auxiliary service at 3:30 p.m., or from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.

Sara was born on July 18, 1933 in New Diggings, Wisconsin, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth “Bessie” (Fawcett) Kitto. She graduated from New Diggings High School in 1952. Sara was united in marriage to David A. McDermott on September 27, 1963 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Cuba City. She worked in food service at UW-Platteville for ten years, where she took great pride serving the students and especially the Chicago Bears whey they did training camp at UW-Platteville. She was a farmer’s wife and homemaker. She was a member of Westview Methodist Church, Platteville, where she was very active. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, where she is a past president and Royal Neighbors of America for over fifty years. She was an avid Bears fan; she enjoyed gardening, tending to her gladiolas, fishing with her cane pole, playing euchre and being with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, David; three daughters, Elizabeth (Michael) Guyer, Laura (Jim Chaffee) Tiedemann, Bernadette (Charles) Soltis; two grandsons, Kelly Soltis and Daniel Guyer. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, Joseph William, son-in-law, Kim Tiedemann,three sisters, Dorothy Simmons, Daisy Mechler, and Martha Phillips, one brother, George Kitto.
