Salmonella infections lead to Wisconsin turkey recall

Health officials are asking people to check their refrigerators to see if they have any recalled turkey products.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services and the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection are investigating reports of salmonella found in raw Butterball ground turkey.

Four people in Wisconsin have been treated for a similar strain of Salmonella after eating the product. A fifth person in Minnesota also tested positive for the same strain of the bacteria.

The food being recalled will have a label reading “EST. P-7345” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The health department reminds people to wash hands and surfaces when handling raw poultry, cook all raw poultry to an internal temperature of 165 degrees and refrigerate or freeze raw poultry.
