Madison – Ruth M. Hinch, age 84, died on Friday, May 16, 2014 at St. Mary’s Hospital, after a brief illness.

She was born on December 1, 1929 in Beetown, WI, the daughter of LeRoy and Frances (Taylor) Barr. Ruth graduated from Lancaster High School in 1948 and completed her college education at Spencerian College in Milwaukee. She was united in marriage to Glenn C. Hinch on April 7, 1951 in Lancaster. Shortly after marriage they moved to Madison where they settled to raise their family. Ruth worked for Madison Brass Works and R.E.V. Properties as an office manager for many years until her retirement. She was a member of the Elks #410 Auxillary and Bashford United Methodist Church.

Ruth was an avid sports fan, backing the Brewers, Packers and especially UW sports. She and Glenn loved to travel throughout the Unites States. They also enjoyed Friday night dinner and dancing at the Elks Club. Ruth was a supportive wife, mother and grandmother while leading a very active and independent lifestyle.

She is survived by her daughter, Lori (Chris) Mortensen; two granddaughters, Jillynn and Erica Mortensen; sisters, Donna (Tom) Williams, Georgia (Douglas) Klarman and Marsha (Chuck) Schaeffer; also many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn, daughter, Vicki, her parents and siblings, Bernard Barr, Naomi Nickel, Idabell Studnicka and William Barr.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at the Ryan Funeral Home, 2418 N. Sherman Ave., with Rev. Brenda Wingfield and Rev. Jane Haass officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, May 19, 2014 at the funeral home and again on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the CICU at St. Mary’s Hospital for their wonderful care and support during her time there.
