Ruth A. Madden
Ruth A. Madden, age 83, of Janesville, died on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014, at home. She was born in Janesville on Nov. 14, 1931, the daughter of George and Catherine (Cunningham) Barry. She graduated from Janesville High School, and St. Mary’s School of Nursing. Ruth married John R. Madden, Sr., in Janesville on Sept. 11, 1954, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 3, 2003. She had been employed by Mercy Hospital and later for the Rock County Health Care Center. She was a member of the Mercy Hospital Alumni, Catholic Women’s Club, St. Mary’s Catholic Church where she was a C.C.D. Instructor, a Charter member of the Junior Women’s Club, Janesville Women’s Club, and the Janesville Country Club. She co-authored “Still Friends” with a group of friends from kindergarten. She was an avid card player with a passion for bridge, a life long Cubs fan, and especially enjoyed her children and grandchildren’s sporting events.
Ruth is survived by her 6 children: Jane (Jeffrey) Marks of California, John R. Madden, Jr. of Madison, Thomas (Jan) Madden of Janesville, William (Wendy) Madden of Janesville, Michael (Lori Garcia) Madden of Virginia and Elizabeth Madden of Maryland; 5 grandchildren: Matthew, Meagan, MacKenzie, Andrew and Austin Madden; sister, Helen Campion of Janesville; other extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and 6 siblings: Msgr. Dennis Barry, Katherine Barry, George Barry, Mary McCormick, James Barry and William Barry.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014, at ST. MARY’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, Janesville with Rev. Stephen Umhoefer officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY.
