Russell W. Johnson
Russell W. “Russ” Johnson, age 64, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday Sept 23, 2012 after a brief illness at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison.
Russ was born on April 15, 1948 to Edith (Semaine) and Phillip Johnson in Janesville, WI. Russ grew up and lived most of his life in Madison, WI where he acquired his love for the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and spent numerous years on the water and in the woods near his home in Wisconsin. Between weekends, Russ worked over 30 years for the City of Madison driving heavy trucks and snow plows in the Streets dept.
In Madison, Russ also met the love of his life, Reitha Jolly and they were married on May 23, 1970. Russ and Reitha enjoyed 42 years together raising their 3 children and 6 grandchildren. Before he was married, Russ served his country for 3 years in the United States Army earning the rank of Sergeant including 2 years of active deployment in Vietnam.
Russ is survived by his wife, Reitha (Jolly) of Madison; Children, Christopher (Michelle) Johnson of Madison, Stacy (Nick) Thompson of Lake in the Hills, IL, and Valerie (Daniel Wopat) Johnson of Stoughton, WI; Grandchildren, Hannah, Hailey, Ethan, Aidan, Ian, and Ashley; Sister, Deborah Johnson of Madison. Russ was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Philip Lee Johnson, and sister Cassandra Sorensen.
A funeral service will be held at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 3416 Swansee Ridge, Sun Prairie, at 11am on Thursday, September 27, 2012 with Father Mike Tess presiding. Visitation will be held at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 N. Sherman Av. Madison from 4-7pm on Wednesday, September 26, 2012.
