Russell V. Neath
OREGON-Russell V. Neath, age 95, of Oregon, passed away on Friday, Sept. 7, 2012. Russell was born on March 18, 1917, and grew up in Oregon. He married the former Maxine Hull in 1941. Russell’s life was interrupted by World War II, during which time he fought in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre. He returned home and had two children; his son, Richard, who died in 1970; and his daughter, Mary (John) Norwell. Russell was a member of the Oregon Fire Department and a 60 year member of the American Legion. He retired from the State of Wisconsin in 1978; and in 1981, he and Maxine moved to Florida. In 1990, Maxine passed away. Russell then married Peggy Cetto who passed away in 2009. At that time, he returned to Wisconsin to be near family.
In addition to his daughter, Russell is survived by his granddaughter, Rebecca Kolb Welch (Bryant) and their two children, Mason and Fischer; sister, Barbara Hvam; brother, Earl “Sonny” Neath; and by many nieces and nephews. He is further survived by his four step-children, Joyce Gianangeli and Sandra Mitcham of Florida and Melvin and David Ace of Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Bunnell in 2011.
Russell was a soft-spoken man; a reluctant warrior, but a proud veteran. He was passionate about his country, his family, golf, country music, and Florida! He was especially proud of his granddaughter and his two little great-grandsons. He will be sorely missed.
The family wishes to thank the many people who assisted Russell on his final leg of his earthly journey; the staff of the home-based Primary Care Team of the VA, particularly Sue Eugster and Linda Fuller, and the many others who helped out along the way.
A Memorial Service will be held the first weekend in October. Memorials may be directed to Badger Honor Flight, or to The National Organization for Albanism (NOAH), PO BOX 959, East Hampstad, NH 03826 .
