Rusell Dee Welton
Professor Rusell Welton, age 80, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Friday, May 16, 2014. He was born August 25, 1933 in Wausau, the son of Andrew and Freida R. (Reinke) Welton.
Rusell graduated from Wausau Senior High in 1951. On September 5, 1953, he was united in marriage to Marlene Kurth in Wausau. Rusell then attended UW- Madison, where he graduated with a Masters in Physics in 1958. After receiving his M. S. degree, Rusell worked on his doctorate by doing research in ultra-high vacuum equipment. In 1961, he became a Professor in Physics and Astronomy and taught at the University of Wisconsin Marathon County Campus. He retired in 1992. After he retired, he moved with his wife to Sun Prairie. Rusell enjoyed opera, classical music, and loved Sunday concerts at the Chazen.
Rusell is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marlene; sons Colin (Johanna) of Indianapolis, Kevin of Madison; and daughter Kendra of Wausau; he also leaves behind his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Glenn and Carl; and sister Marian Anderson.
A funeral service for Rusell will be held at 11:00am, Friday, May 23, 2014 at Cress Funeral Home, 1310 Emerald Terrace, Sun Prairie, followed by burial at Sun Prairie Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held from 10am until time of the service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Olbrich Botanical Gardens.
