Run/walk raises money, awareness for epidemic of sexual assault
In addition to calling physical abuse of women what it is — sexual assault — a related strategy for ending the abuse is giving voice to it.
It’s not enough to tell ourselves that this epidemic of assault of women must end — we have to act, publically, together and with purpose.
Take Back the Night Madison is one such action and it happens Wednesday night at 8 p.m.
The 5K run and two mile walk, organized by the Rape Crisis Center, begins with registration at the City County Building.
Supporters will gather to hear some opening remarks and then head out to bring attention to the 1 in 4 women on the U-W Madison campus who reported being sexually assaulted and to support survivors.
Best of all, funds raised by the event will support It Starts Here, an educational initiative to teach students — especially men — and educate them about healthy relationships. Find more information online at TakeBacktheNight.org .
