Ronald L. Bowers
Ronald L. Bowers, age 79, of Verona, passed away, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, October 26, 2014, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg.
Ron was born December 20, 1934, in Montfort, the son of Cleo “Bud” and Clara (Bisbach) Bowers. He graduated from Montfort High School in 1952, and from the Wisconsin Institute of Technology (which later became UW-Platteville) as a civil engineer in 1956. Ron was united in marriage to Shirley Junk on August 30, 1958. He entered military service in February 1958, serving in the U.S. Army, and was assigned to the transportation school at Fort Eustis, VA, and subsequently to the 76th Engineering (construction) Battalion in South Korea. With the exception of his time in the military, Ron’s entire professional career was with the State of Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
Ron had a variety of interests and hobbies and savored life even while doing everyday things. In his younger years, Ron was active in St. Andrew’s Parish activities including Parish Council, ushering, and volunteering. His love of electronics and reading continued all of his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with his family, carpentry, cabinet building, golf, playing cards (especially with the “SNEC” – Saturday Night Euchre Club), bowling, gardening, and just puttering. He and Shirley enjoyed their road trips and stopping in at the casinos. Ron often said his favorite vacation of all time was the family camping trip around Lake Superior.
Ron is survived by two daughters, Julie (Bill) Carlson, Joan Howery; one son, Jim (Kim) Bowers; nine grandchildren, Kim, Zach, and Cody Carlson; Ben and Alex Howery, Riley and Erin Bowers, Colin and Chris Cabelka; a sister, Pat (Art) Benisch and brother-in-law, Bill Heun; in-laws, Betty Junk, Myrna (Harold) Clark, Donna (Skip) Raisbeck, Wayne (Arlene) Junk, and many nieces and nephews.
