A man needed a dozen stitches after being beaten in a downtown bar by a romantic rival, according to a release from Madison police.

Officers were called to 552 State St. at 1:06 a.m. Saturday after the beating at Whiskey Jack’s Saloon.

Witnesses told police the victim, a 28-year-old Fort Atkinson man, was sitting on a bar stool when Ra E. Fury, 28, of Madison, came up from behind and put him in a headlock. Ra punched the man in the head several times and was laughing as he did it, according to the report.

The victim was treated by Madison paramedics for a head cut. He told police he and Fury are interested in the same woman.

Fury was arrested on suspicion of substantial battery.
