Roger Paul Okas
VERONA/JANESVILLE/BELOIT, Wis. — Roger Paul Okas, the best husband, father and grandpa we could have ever asked for passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 7, 2017 after recently being diagnosed with melanoma.
Roger was born on December 17, 1950 in Beloit, Wisconsin to Ruby B. Okas (nee Brewer) and John T. Okas. He attended Brother Dutton Elementary School and graduated from Beloit Catholic High School in 1969. Roger attended UW-Madison and was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon. He graduated from Milton College in 1977, where he met Jan. He married Jan Bouton on October 7, 1978 in Janesville, WI.
Roger was very passionate about his family, his golf game, cooking and his Badgers and Packers. He was past president of Janesville Morning Rotary. Most recently he was Business Manager for Fitchburg Animal Hospital and Waggin Tails in Fitchburg and loved working with his sister, Liz. Roger was looking forward to his retirement and a few more travels. He loved family trips to Longboat Key, Florida; Charleston, Seabrook and Kiawah Island, South Carolina. He and Jan loved their trips to France, Italy and Ireland and fondly remembered his 3 month backpacking trip during his college days to Europe with high school buddies. Best memories are our 4th of July summers on Lake Nakomis, Tomahawk with his cousins Mary Lou & John Ley, where we all looked forward to the fish fries on the beach; watching Badger games and grilling with his son, Michael; and of course visits to Chicago to see, Stephanie, Chad and the grandkids.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Ruby “Kitty” Okas, an infant brother, and in-laws Elizabeth “Betty” and Joe Bouton. He is survived by his wife, Jan; children Michael P. Okas and Stephanie L. (Chad) Alvarez; grandchildren: Scarlett Elizabeth, Barry John Thomas, Hadley Ruby and Anson Michael Antonio Alvarez; brothers, Jim (Suzanne) Okas, David (Beth) Okas; sister Liz (Missy Longacre) Okas; aunt Lorraine Brewer, cousins Mary Lou (John) Ley, Ron (Lori) Marston and John Brewer; along with many loving nieces, nephews and family friends; and his beloved dog “Annie.”
