Rodney J. “Bud” Stoppleworth
MIDDLETON-Rodney J. “Bud” Stoppleworth, age 85, passed away on Saturday, July 7, 2012, after a brief illness. He was born on July 14, 1926, in Cross Plains, to Albert and Therese (Nilles) Stoppleworth.
Bud had worked for many years with the Middleton Farmers Co-op. He later was employed by the Middleton School District as a school bus driver. During Bud’s retirement he worked at Ace Hardware in Middleton. In his later years Bud lived at the Jefferson Retirement Community where he made and helped many friends, regularly leading the rosary with his fellow residents. He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church in Middleton where he served as an usher.
Bud is survived by his son, Rick (Richard Zitelli) of Toms River, NJ; sisters, Sister Marilyn Stoppleworth of the School Sisters of St. Francis, Comayagua, Honduras, Roz Haak of Oregon, Janice Brunner of Black Earth, Jeanene Paddock of Harlington, Texas and Roberta “Bobbi” (Jack) Hilgers of Middleton; and brother, Albert (Jean) of Cross Plains. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Luceil; and son, Dennis, a decorated soldier, who served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam in 1970.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 7450 University Ave., Middleton, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 10, 2012, with Monsignor Douglas Duschack presiding. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the mass on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare Inc., 5395 East Cheryl Parkway, Fitchburg, WI 53711. A heartfelt thank you to all those who knew, loved and shared with Bud.
