Rodney H. Rossdeutscher
MONONA –Rodney H. Rossdeutscher, age 88, of Monona, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014, at Agrace HospiceCare.
He was born on May 2, 1926, in Richland Center, the son of Harold and Flora (Gray) Rossdeutscher. He married Darlene Ewing on Sept. 27, 1952, in Richland Center. Rod attended a one room school house in Richland County. He worked on the family farm through his youth and early adulthood. Rod served in the Army Infantry during World War II in the Pacific Theatre and in Korea as a Sergeant. Following his service to his country he attended the U.W. short course and worked in dairy management for 14 years. Rod left the university and worked for the City of Monona for the next 20 years. He was the one who was out in the middle of the night for water main breaks and first snow falls. Rod was a generous, gentle man, who was always the extra hand when needed.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Darlene; two brothers, Neal (Lou Anne) and Russell Rossdeutscher; sisters-in-law, Doris Berberich, Laura McDonald and Alta Jean (Paul) Loder; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three siblings.
Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, at 10 a.m., on Friday, Nov. 7, 2014, with the Rev. Jeff Vanden Heuvel presiding. Burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014, and from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
