Rockton residents file class-action lawsuit in response to chemical plant fire

Rockton Chemtool chemical fire

ROCKTON, Wis. — More than 100 Rockton residents who were forced from their homes after a massive fire at the Chemtool factory last week are now taking legal action.

The Chicago Tribune reports the residents filed two lawsuits Friday seeking class-action status against the parent company of the industrial lubricant plant, Lubrizol.

The lawsuit claims the company was negligent with their production facility, leading to the fire that burned for several days and forced people living within one mile of the plant to evacuate.

An attorney representing the plaintiffs told the Tribune the lawsuit goes beyond monetary compensation. He says they want to know the extent of any health threats nearby residents could face in the future.
