Rock County bar suffers extensive fire damage
TOWN OF TURTLE, Wis. — A rural Beloit bar suffered extensive damage in a fire Friday.
In a news release, Town of Turtle Fire Department Deputy Chief Jason Rowland said an employee arriving for work at Bootleggers bar discovered the building full of smoke and called 911 around noon.
Firefighters from the town of Turtle and surrounding communities fought the blaze, which in the basement utility room and then spread through the walls to the second floor.
No one was injured in the fire, the release said. Crews from several departments in Illinois, as well as the town and city of Beloit, Brodhead, Clinton, Edgerton, Janesville, Milton and Darien, responded to the fire.
The building is believed to be more than 100 years old.
A damage estimate was not available, and the cause of the fire could not be determined, the release said.
