Robert Ryland Block

Robert Ryland Block, age 63, left this world unexpectedly on October 30, 2014.

He was born in Madison on December 1st, 1950 to Ryland and Arlene (Luetscher) Block.

He graduated from Sauk Prairie High School in 1969 and attended the University of Wisconsin and the University of Minnesota where he was an exceptional athlete and excelled in academics. After receiving his doctorate of veterinary medicine in 1975, Dr. Block practiced for 35 years beginning in Plymouth, Wisconsin and then returned to his dream job at Sauk Prairie Veterinary Clinic. He could often be seen driving to farms with his black lab by his side. In 1975, Bob married his high school sweetheart, Linda Hicks. They had three children, Jess, Joe & Annie, whom he loved unconditionally and were his pride and joy. Bob loved hunting, fishing, hiking, camping and being outdoors. He especially loved spending time with his family at the cabin on Lake Wisconsin.

In addition to Linda, he is survived by his three children Jessica of Prairie du Sac, Joseph (Kim) of Wauwatosa and Anne Marie (Dan) Gander of Clinton; three beautiful grandchildren, Ryne and Hailey Gander and Olivia Block; his parents, Ryland and Arlene; two sisters, Sue Smalley of Chippewa Falls and Carol (Howie Lowe) of Madison; three sister-in-laws Marlene (Ed) Waddell of Baraboo, Charlotte (Romie) Haas of Sauk City and Judy (David) Frey of Sauk City; along with many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Howard and Freda Hicks, brother-in-law Scott Smalley, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Shirley and Leonard Swenson.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, November 4th at Concordia Methodist Church at 585 5th St, Prairie du Sac, WI. A visitation will be held at the church from 2:00 pm until the time of service. A gathering to share memories will be held following the service.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established.

Dad, you were our role model, our coach, and an inspiration to us always. We love you and you will forever be missed.
