MADISON, Wis. — Robert Piper, age 70, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at his home.
He was born on June 18, 1946, in Walthill, Neb., the son of Horace and Florence (McCullough) Piper. Robert graduated in 1964 from Sparta High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1964-1968, as a member of the Army Security Agency and was stationed at Ft. Devens, Mass., Bad Aibling, Germany and Vietnam. Robert worked as a Pipefitter/Welder for Madison Gas & Electric, retiring in 2008. He was a member of the Poynette Bow Hunters Club and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 2304. Robert enjoyed physics, science, coaching at East Madison Little League, bow hunting, range shooting with friends and spending time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews.
Robert is survived by sons, David and Dewey; granddaughter, Lacy Piper; grandson, Simon Piper; sisters, Shirley Knudson and Jane Kay (Duane) Peterson; brother, Wayne Piper and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Marlan (Meryl) Piper and Henry Piper; and sister, Verene Milton.
