Robert L. Hjort
Sun Prairie, WI. – Robert “Bob” L. Hjort, aged 89, passed away on Monday, September 17, 2012 at Agrace Hospice care, surrounded by his family.
Robert, the son of Arthur Stanly Hjort and Bernice Ione (Billingsly) Funke, was born on May 5, 1923 in Kenosha, WI.
On March 2, 1946 Robert married the love of his life, Mary Ellen McAdams at St. James Catholic Church in Madison, WI. Together they raised 7 children. Robert worked for the General Telephone Company for 48 years and served as a volunteer firefighter for 33 years. He was a member of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church in Sun Prairie.
Robert was a World War II Veteran and served in the Navy at Pearl Harbor.
Robert is survived by his seven loving children: Robert James (Susan) of Poynette, James Joseph of Eau Claire, Richard Arthur (Susan) of Libby, Montana, Stephen Jay (Trish) of Oregon, Deborah Lynn (Brian) Kreger of Rio, Patricia Ann Hjort of San Diego, California, Mary Kay (Wayne) Kennard of Ankeny, Iowa; and his beloved grandchildren, Lindsay Marie Hjort, Travis James Hjort, Katelyn E. Kreger, Ryan Taylor Cochrane, Lexington Marie Kennard and Lily Grace Kennard.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen; his brother, Arthur Jr.; and his parents Arthur Hjort and Bernice Funke.
Robert was an avid outdoorsman and passed his reverence for animals and nature onto his children and grandchildren. He loved hunting and fishing and was the king of the shore lunch. He will be greatly missed.
Family and friends are welcome to come to a celebration of Robert’s life visitation on Friday, September 21, 2012 from 5-8 PM at Cress Funeral Home, 1310 Emerald Terrace Sun Prairie.
